DREAM Act bill blocked in Senate

Today’s vote in the Senate not to proceed with debate on the DREAM Act brings yet another agonizing delay for the hundreds of thousands of young people who were brought to the US by their parents as children, either illegally or else with a visa and then overstayed, and who have remained here ever since. Today’s disappointing vote delivers a troubling setback to these youth in their quest to live legally in the country which, for many of them, is the only country they know. The stalled DREAM Act would have allowed those under 30 who are unlawfully present to acquire legal status if they went to college or joined the US armed forces. Read more.
